Heart of Randwick acknowledges the Bidjigal and Gadigal Clans who traditionally occupied this area of the Sydney Coast
In the Heart of Randwick, family-friendly cafes and restaurants nestle in nostalgic streets, a heritage-listed cinema shines as an enduring Sydney icon, and surprising cultural experiences wait just around the corner.
Easy to reach by light rail, this leafy pocket in Sydney’s east is treasured for its contemporary village style as well as its food, culture and art. Catch a classic or new release at the iconic Ritz Cinemas, or try a curated film festival, panel talk, immersive performance or community screening. Enjoy the local hospitality at The Spot, where restaurants run from casual to fine dining, and follow dramatic new art installations down to the five-hectare Newmarket precinct with its impressive dining plaza and much-loved children’s playground.
A shared interest in wellbeing runs throughout the humming district. With a major hospitals campus in the area, the local community is surrounded by a network of healthcare professionals and carers. The current expansion of the campus and emerging innovation precinct now see the neighbourhood energised by new startups and an influx of researchers and student communities, shaping a growing demand for night-time culture.
A diverse mix of intergenerational communities come together in the Heart of Randwick, all looking to shop, dine and unwind in this warm and welcoming destination.
Heart of Randwick has commissioned major artworks for the lanes of Randwick, using art to enliven shared space, improve connectivity and enhance community wellbeing.
In 2025, the district also hosted the Randwick Creative Night, a one-night suburb-wide festival that brought the local community together to feast, play and create, as well as the Winter Wednesdays Art Series, a month-long program of curated art events. Running in June, the series took art out of the gallery and placed it in much-loved Randwick locations for the whole community to enjoy.
